Eu já tinha mais de 40 anos na primeira vez que viajei aos Estados Unidos. Durante minha vida até então, aquele país foi referência de liberdade de expressão, informação, ação. Vivi a juventude sob o poder da ditadura militar, que tanto prejudicou o desenvolvimento do Brasil na segunda metade do século passado, e os EUA eram referência de uma sociedade desenvolvida e livre (na minha cabeça!).

Até então, Che Guevara, Marx, Cuba e a revolução eram referências de ordem ética. Estive em Cuba, depois da Ditadura, e vi muitas crianças lindas, sorridentes, felizes. Havia escolas, hospitais em cada bairro. Os carros eram horríveis, mas ninguém ligava. As pessoas eram felizes, mas não tinham livre acesso à informação. Canal de tevê controlado pelo Estado.

Mas ir aos Estados Unidos, ou América, como eles se chamam, só aconteceu em 2002. Justo depois do terrível Nine Eleven, que mudou tudo por lá. Autoconfiança virou raiva, medo, perdas e guerras. Aqui a gente coloca portões e travas de segurança.

Nos EUA não há portões. Há porte livre de armas. O sujeito tem o direito constitucional de ter arma para sua defesa. Até mesmo contra o Estado. Eles chamam isso de liberdade. Violência e armamento é um problema sério no país, em minha opinião.

Encontrou vários amigos…

Fiquei tão entusiasmada com todos os acontecimentos que pedi permissão para fotografar, o que me foi concedido. Delícia! Tirei foto de tudo que vi pela frente naquele Pentágono tão curioso quanto poderoso. Tudo ia tão bem até que chegamos à porta para o metrô – há uma saída que dá direto em uma estação. Supervigiada. Segurança máxima.

Do alto da escada rolante, olhei para aquela parede imensa, abaixo das escadas. Uma inscrição linda e enorme: Pentagon… em ouro, parece. Viajei, cliquei duas vezes minha máquina, para acertar melhor o ângulo.

Quando olhei para o lado, havia vários fuzis apontados diretamente para mim e para meu já desesperado anfitrião! Entreguei a máquina ao segurança, pedi milhões de desculpas, mas ele insistia que o caso iria para a CIA. Chamou seu superior.
