Para os moradores da pequena Rua Benito Juarez, que começa na Humberto I e termina na Dr. Fabrício Vampré, a definição da palavra família encontra um significado muito mais amplo. “Mais vale um vizinho perto do que um parente distante”, ensina a moradora dona Marilene Maichim. 

A rua é uma grande família! – todos corcordam.“Quando a gente precisa de ajuda, os mais próximos serão sempre os vizinhos. Esse cuidado com o outro nos une em todos os momentos. Lembro-me de dona Francisca, que vestiu tantas vizinhas falecidas que acabou conhecida como a coveira dona Francisca”.

E a dona Lourdes Pini? A filha Cylene Pini sabe explicar muito bem o jeitinho ‘dona Lourdes de ser’. “Eu fui criada nessa rua com a minha mãe dizendo: ‘o quê!?, não vai comer? Se não comer eu vou chamar o seu Thiago para te dar uma injeção”. “Meu pai era o farmacêutico da rua”, conta Thelma Kameko.

Gateira, dona Lourdes está meio cismada com a sua felina, que anda gostando bastante da casa da vizinha Anaíde. “É que a Anaíde cuida muito bem da gata”, diverte-se Cylene.

Nas memórias dos moradores, o farmacêutico Thiago Sakuda também é lembrado por sua paixão pelas plantas. “Ele tinha um grande orquidário no quintal e, quando elas floresciam, ele distribuía um vaso para cada vizinho”, recorda Thelma.

O jeitão festeiro e a prontidão de dona Lourdes para acudir os vizinhos foram herdados pela filha Cylene. “Vizinho é mais que família. Um ajuda o outro, empresta, dá carona, compartilha comida, festeja… é uma relação de amor”, confessa a famosa na vizinhança pela receita de cuscuz.

Representante da primeira geração de moradores da Benito Juarez, dona Cecília Fukugava instalou residência em 1943. E garante que essa atmosfera sempre esteve no DNA da vizinhança. “Quando o meu sogro morreu, vieram tantas pessoas ao velório que os vizinhos abriram as suas casas para que elas pudessem descansar”, recorda-se.

A vizinhança é unida até hoje, garante Zeca Atalla. “Todos os moradores me viram crescer aqui, eu trabalho em casa. Todos se conhecem e  se ajudam. Se alguém está doente, é amparado. Essa relação de afeto nos dá muita segurança e qualidade de vida”.

Professor de violão, Zeca também faz público da janela de sua casa. “O Zeca é parte do imaginário dos meus filhos. Eles cresceram ouvindo o Zeca cantar na janela, diz Vanessa Gomes Possatto (40), representante da nova geração de moradores da rua. “Essa relação não tem preço”, observa.

Há sete anos na Benito Juarez, Vanessa diz que foi muito bem acolhida. “Antes, eu morava num apartamento no Jardim da Glória e não tinha essa relação entre os vizinhos. Era esquisito, parecia que o bairro não tinha vida. Quando eu e meu marido nos mudamos para cá, fomos recebidos muito calorosamente”.

Ela afirma que esse acolhimento emocional foi fundamental num momento especial de sua vida. “Quando eu fiquei grávida, todos participaram do processo, ajudaram em tudo com muito amor e cuidado. Foi nesse momento que eu percebi o quanto essa relação de vizinhança é valiosa e o quanto os meus dois filhos são privilegiados de poder crescer nesse ambiente”.

Formada por 40 casas, a Rua Benito Juarez está inserida no bolsão residencial formado pelas ruas Cel. Artur de Godoi e Dr. Fabrício Vampré. Essa área começou a ser loteada no começo do século passado. Antes do processo de urbanização, era a Chácara das Jabuticabeiras, de 5.500 m².

Na década de 40, as cerca de 40 casas foram projetadas por engenheiros e arquitetos sírios- libaneses. “As do lado ímpar foram construídas em estilo europeu e com mão de obra italiana”, contam os moradores. “As danças dos vizinhos libaneses marcaram a minha infância”, revela Cylene.

Descendente de pai libanês e mãe italiana, Zeca conta que as suas raízes estão fincadas na Benito Juarez desde a chegada de seus avós maternos, em 1954. “No ano seguinte, os meus pais se casaram. E, para manter a família unida, meus avós, materno e paterno, compraram uma casa na rua para eles”.

O pai de Zeca, Seu Michel, era divertido e bom de conversa, recordam os moradores. “Quando passava o sorveteiro na rua, ele ia logo ensaiando uma bronca: “Ei, que história é essa de passar aqui a essa hora, rapaz?”.  Antes que o vendedor respondesse, ele prosseguia: “quantos sorvetes sobraram aí? “. Ele comprava tudo e distribuía para a vizinhança, conta Cylene.

A primeira geração de moradores da Benito Juarez conviveu com o Rio Boa Vista correndo ao fundo do quintal. “Para ir à escola, os vizinhos cruzavam uma ponte”, conta Catarina Alexandre Galeb. O rio foi canalizado na década de 1950. No fundo de algumas casas há até hoje tampas da tubulação do rio. A rua sempre foi considerada o quintal da vizinhança, diz ela. “Eu nasci aqui em 1945. A rua sempre foi palco de muitas brincadeiras e festejos. Nas festas juninas — que fazemos até hoje —, todos se reuniam na pracinha, tinha fogueira, dança e cada um levava um prato de comida”.

Filha de pai paraense e mãe portuguesa, a moradora Anaíde conta que foi aos 17 anos que se mudou para a Benito Juarez, em 1972. “A minha mãe se apaixonou pela rua. No passar dos anos, muitos vizinhos se casaram e continuaram aqui. Eu, quando me casei, fui morar em Pinheiros. Não aguentei e voltei correndo”.

De geração a geração, as memórias afetivas sustentam a cultura de união entre os vizinhos. Ao falar de dona Vitória, mãe de Anaíde, Zeca se emociona. “Era a pessoa mais querida por todos da rua, de uma generosidade louvável.  Nos momentos mais sensíveis, ela sempre estendeu a mão a todos”, enaltece o vilamarianense.

Os moradores dessa rua tão especial conservam um estilo de vida  que, aqui e ali, resiste no bairro graças a uma silenciosa batalha travada contra a verticalização. A especulação imobiliária na Rua Benito Juarez tem sido cada vez mais agressiva, denunciam os moradores.

“É uma violência, pois todos os vizinhos já deixaram bem claro que não querem vender as suas casas. Mesmo assim, insistem, ligam sem parar, passam informações falsas e tentam criar intrigas na vizinhança”, reclamam. “É inadmissível o assédio que os moradores estão sofrendo para vender seus imóveis”, revolta-se uma moradora. “As construtoras ligam insistentemente, acham que têm o direito de expulsar a gente daqui”, repudia outra.

Além disso, de acordo com a vizinhança, o valor ofertado pelas construtoras está em 2 milhões de reais, que não são pagos em dinheiro, e, sim, em imóveis em outras regiões. Segundos os vizinhos, a pressão é constante. “Eles fazem terrorismo…falam: ‘olha, o seu vizinho vendeu, se você não vender, o prédio vai emparedar a sua casa, vai desvalorizar, vai cobrir o sol…’ Inventam histórias para  fragilizar a pessoa e convencê-la a vender por pressão”, lamenta Zeca.

Os moradores da Benito Juarez estão elaborando um abaixo-assinado para defender a área de mais um novo empreendimento. O local é visado para a construção de um condomínio de duas torres ,com 20 andares cada, na  Av. Conselheiro Rodrigues Alves.  O projeto avança na Rua Benito Juarez. “Pode construir, mas não precisa acabar com a vida do entorno. Muitos vizinhos estão reformando suas casas e todos querem continuar aqui. Vamos resistir”, declara Zeca.
