Só pateta não se diverte trabalhando na Disney*

A primeira coisa que geralmente me perguntam quando descobrem que já trabalhei na Disney é “Mas você fazia o que lá? Se vestia de Mickey?”. Se eu ganhasse um dólar a cada vez que respondesse a esse tipo de coisa, talvez já tivesse dinheiro pra abarrotar minhas prateleiras com miniaturas do Magic Kingdom. A verdade é que o Disney College Program — o famoso programa no qual universitários trabalham nos parques e hotéis do complexo Walt Disney World, em Orlando — é bem mais do que se “vestir de Mickey”.

Gostei tanto da brincadeira que participei duas vezes do ICP e afirmo com convicção que foram as melhores experiências que tive na vida. A primeira vez foi na temporada 2012/2013, na qual fui vendedor em quatro lojas diferentes localizadas no Boardwalk, um resort bem próximo ao Epcot Center. A segunda vez foi na temporada 2013/2014, e novamente trabalhei como vendedor em hotel, mas dessa vez no luxuoso Saratoga Springs, na única loja desse resort. Posso dizer que, mesmo estando muitas vezes cansado com o ritmo frenético, me diverti demais trabalhando nas lojas, porque todo dia eu interagia com famílias de americanos e de pessoas de várias outras nacionalidades. 

Além disso, usufruí demais dos benefícios de ser empregado do Mickey, dentre os quais se destaca a possibilidade de entrar gratuitamente nos parques, quando quiser! Aos finais de semana, e às vezes mesmo antes ou depois dos meus turnos, me reunia com amigos e íamos, por exemplo, ao Hollywood Studios curtir a Rock ‘n Roller Coaster, ou ao Animal Kingdom assistir ao show do Rei Leão. Outra vantagem fantástica que o programa proporciona é ter descontos em compras de produtos Disney e em reservas nos hotéis do complexo. 

No meu primeiro ICP, meus pais foram me visitar em Orlando e aproveitamos intensamente essas mamatas, tanto que eles ficaram hospedados no All Star Music, entraram de graça comigo em quatro parques, fizeram compras com desconto, e até assistimos ao sensacional espetáculo do Cirque de Soleil “La Nouba” por um preço bem acessível. 

Mas a cereja desse bolo mágico chamado ICP é, na minha opinião, o alojamento. A Disney possui quatro condomínios de casas onde os participantes do CP e do ICP devem morar durante o programa, e o clima é parecido com o de um campus universitário americano, apesar das normas rígidas de segurança e controle. Essa foi a parte que eu mais curti, já que tive muito contato com meus roommates e vizinhos, além de me encontrar o tempo todo com amigos, brasileiros ou não, em reuniões ou festinhas (que não podem ser muito barulhentas por causa da segurança) no apartamento de alguém. 

Antes de qualquer coisa, acho importante frisar que quem participa do ICP realmente trabalha muito. É claro que a gente se diverte horrores também, mas aqueles que chegam a Orlando esperando apenas festa e curtição quebram a cara. Lá se faz valer o ditado “work hard, play hard”, afinal, se por um lado trabalhamos em média 45 horas semanais, com alguns intervalos de 30 minutos conforme o tamanho do turno diário, por outro é possível ir pra balada toda noite. Exatamente: tem balada toda noite, mas cabe a você reconhecer se estará física e psicologicamente apto a ficar em pé trabalhando durante 8 horas no dia seguinte (digo isso porque você terá que trabalhar em pé em quase qualquer função que exerça lá). 

“E o que raios você fez pra conseguir trabalhar na Disney?!” é outra pergunta que me fazem com frequência. Resumidamente, o primeiro passo é efetuar o cadastro no site do Student Travel Bureau (STB), agência que intermedeia todo o processo. Isso deve acontecer no começo do ano, próximo a março e abril, pois a seleção tem a duração de alguns meses, então fique atento e se informe quanto aos prazos! Feito isso, você receberá instruções sobre alguns documentos que precisará providenciar e à data na qual acontecerá uma palestra de presença obrigatória. Nela, um consultor da STB irá explicar a fundo todos os detalhes do ICP e será definido o dia da sua primeira entrevista (em inglês) com outras pessoas do estafe do intermediário.

Nesse meio-tempo, você já terá recebido uma lista com todas as possibilidades de função que pode exercer no ICP, dentre as quais estão, entre outras, vendedor de merchandise, vendedor de comida, trabalhar nas atrações dos parques, host/hostess em restaurantes, e até, veja só, fantasiar-se de Mickey ou de outros personagens (mas com algumas restrições)! Na lista você colocará em ordem de preferência os cargos que deseja ocupar, mas é importante ter em mente que, apesar de ser levado em consideração o que você prefere, nada garante que eles te ofereçam a posição de trabalho que você mais deseja, portanto esteja aberto a fazer outras coisas. Vale citar que todo trampo lá é remunerado, mas a maioria das funções no ICP é agraciada com o salário mínimo da Flórida.

Caso seja aprovado para a segunda fase do processo, você deverá participar de mais uma palestra, desta vez ministrada por recrutadores da Disney que viajam pelo mundo selecionando candidatos de diversos países. Em seguida será agendada uma entrevista (novamente em inglês) com esses profissionais e, caso dê tudo certo, essa será sua última etapa antes de ser finalmente contratado! Depois será preciso arcar com algumas tarefas chatinhas, tais quais agendar e tirar o visto de trabalho americano, mas o mais difícil já passou.

Enfim, recomendo demais essa experiência, afinal, além de a bagagem acumulada ser única e trazer frutos tanto pessoais como profissionais, trata-se de um dos intercâmbios mais baratos que você pode encontrar, com um espetacular retorno sobre o investimento. Assim como aconteceu comigo, tenho certeza que algumas amizades que você fará no ICP serão para a vida toda. E só não se esqueça de uma coisa: você jamais conseguirá se livrar do Disney Point.
