Envelhecer… Um grande desafio

Envelhecer sim, é um desafio, mas também uma dádiva, uma indiscutível oportunidade de vida, em passar experiências. Feliz daquele que tem histórias para contar, que faz de sua bagagem um exemplo, algo a ser seguido.

Em 1943, uma Senhora chamada Giselda, escreveu em um álbum de recordações : “A vida é um teatro onde cada um desempenha, bem ou mal, o seu papel; terminada a existência saem todos por detrás dos bastidores da eternidade”. Penso sempre nesses dizeres e no significado dessas belas palavras.

Cada um de nós, traz dentro de si, um cabedal, que pode ser carregado de bens materiais, haveres, tantos quantos conseguimos juntar na nossa existência. Mas o que deixaremos e levaremos dela? Se nossos “papéis” forem bons, provavelmente deixaremos marcas significativas; mas se “nem tanto”, o que ficará? Onde fica o conhecimento, a sabedoria, a sapiência? Certamente, naquilo que nossos netos terão orgulho de nós, enquanto pessoas que deixaram seu crivo que, olhando de “dentro para fora”, levarão a nos enxergarem como cidadãos do bem.

Segundo estudo da Fundação SEADE existe, no município de São Paulo, 1,7 milhão de idosos (dados do início 2019). A análise demonstra que o envelhecimento na capital está acima da média nacional. A população idosa cresceu e, com ela, um sem número de problemas complexos. Apesar do avanço da Medicina, nem sempre o nosso “velho” tem acesso a uma boa estrutura de saúde, mesmo que hoje se fale muito em Programas de lazer e praças públicas adequadas com aparelhos para a terceira idade.

Há uma discordância da sociedade para esse novo modelo de ser humano. Alguns ainda tem condição de trabalho, mas nem sempre têm a formação necessária de pós graduações e outros cursos. E assim, vão sendo negligenciados e colocados, às vezes, de lado, pela própria família. Muitos recorrem até a “empréstimos consignados” para saldar dívidas com remédios…

Rapidamente, as pessoas se esquecem dos almoços de família, onde a tradicional “nona” preparava os mais saborosos quitutes, para que a tradição familiar não fosse quebrada. Na atualidade, ninguém mais tem tempo, os netos(ou bisnetos) têm suas próprias vidas, nas quais não cabe mais ouvir histórias repetitivas de seus avós ou bisavós; os filhos correm atrás de seus status, se desdobrando para não perder, em meio a uma pandemia, aquilo que conseguiram “juntar”.

E a vida cobra, com o tempo, aquilo que podíamos fazer e não fizemos. E o pior: também estamos envelhecendo e, como bem se sabe, após os 60 anos, há um declínio natural de toda pessoa. Não há como mudar isso.

De repente o tempo passa e nos deparamos com idosos já em “quarta idade”, exigindo-nos  paciência, cuidados especiais e muita boa vontade. Nós, que estávamos acostumados a sentar às mesas de domingo e sermos servidos, vemos chegar a hora de servir. E isso exige  muito despojamento e horas de dedicação. De “recebedores de cuidados”, viramos “cuidadores”. Alguns terceirizam o trabalho, esquecendo de suas próprias obrigações, que vão muito além de pagar as contas. Existem muitas formas de cuidar: um abraço, um carinho, auxiliar numa troca de fraldas, apoiar o idoso quando necessário.

Praticamente todos os idosos têm apego excessivo a sua casa. Portanto, é natural e esperado que, se dela tiverem que sair para receber um atendimento mais especializado numa Casa de Repouso, por exemplo, terão uma fase de adaptação e necessitarão, mais do que nunca, da presença sistemática dos filhos.

Isso nos faz lembrar da situação pandêmica, na qual há limitação de visitas e alguns dos nossos “velhos” se sentem abandonados. Claro que há riscos e temos que nos precaver. Mas não podemos negligenciar aqueles, que muitas vezes abdicaram de tudo por nós.

Na atualidade, os idosos que moram sós, em meio a pandemia, ficam isolados não só das pessoas, como da própria vida, submersos em pensamentos, ideias e más notícias televisivas – o que os está conduzindo (independente do vírus), a infartos, acidentes vasculares cerebrais, aumento de níveis pressóricos, etc. Além daqueles que, por não receberem ajuda externa, se colocam sob risco, saindo para farmácias e supermercados, além, claro, de Postos de Saúde e outros. E, por último, citamos os casos extremos, que são de suicídio; inclusive alguns por depressões não tratadas.

E o cuidador? Seja ele contratado ou alguém da família, deve contar sempre com apoio. O ideal seria que houvesse uma subdivisão nas tarefas, para evitar a sobrecarga de “um só” ter que tomar conta de tudo. Essa pessoa também poderá adoecer junto ao outro, pois dependendo da demanda, surgirão sequelas emocionais, como quadros de depressão, ansiedade, burnout, além da ativação de doenças físicas.

Como cautela, o cuidador precisa aprender a pedir ajuda, se não dá conta. Em seguida, deverá promover recursos internos, buscando saídas simples, como uma música suave, relaxamento, yôga, etc. Outras estratégias são sugeridas, como uma  busca religiosa e/ou  fazer psicoterapia. É fundamental que nunca deixe seus próprios cuidados médicos.

E assim vamos aprendendo a exercer nossos papéis, ora para cuidar, ora para ser cuidado.
