Quando resolvemos, eu e minha mulher, passar nossas férias na Croácia, vários amigos questionaram nosso destino e nós sempre respondíamos que iriamos para um dos lugares mais deslumbrantes da Europa. Iniciamos nossa pequena aventura descendo em Milão e alugamos um carro sem GPS, para dar mais emoção, e fomos ao destino que chamamos “buraco negro”. 

Paramos em Veneza para descanso, para encontrar nosso querido filho, João, e nossa nora, Renata, para comemorarmos o aniversário de minha mulher Ane. Após este merecido encontro, fomos direto para a Eslovênia, onde conhecemos cida-dezinhas nas montanhas que pareciam verdadeiros jardins. Aí então, seguimos para a tão esperada Croácia. 

A península Balcânica — mais conhecida como Bálcãs, ‘montanha” em turco, fica no sudeste da Europa e é formada por muito países, Eslovênia, Croácia, Bósnia e Herzegovina, Sérvia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedônia, Moldávia, Romênia, Bulgária, Albânia, Grécia e a parte europeia da Turquia. 

Com diferentes etnias, a grande porção de terra foi unificada depois da Primeira Guerra e passou a chamar-se Iugoslávia. Depois da Segunda Guerra Mundial (1939-1945), a maioria dos países balcânicos foi dominada por governos comunistas, que a partir de 1989 foram perdendo força. 

Após muitos conflitos étnicos e ideologicos, a partir de 1990, as antigas repúblicas tornaram-se independentes. A Croácia faz fronteira com a Bósnia Herzegovina, a Hungria, o Montenegro, a Sérvia e a Eslovénia. Uma região de longa e acidentada faixa costeira, banhada pelo Mar Adriático, com 1.135 ilhas e um litoral de 5.789 quilômetros. 

A primeira cidade na Croácia foi Opatja, simplesmente ficamos deslumbrados com a beleza do mar Adriático. Ali os croatas esculpiram, em calcário, bancos. Tudo lindo, dentro do mar: todos sentados dentro da água fria, porém de um azul irresistível! Foi aí que tivemos  o primeiro contato com o povo croata: amáveis, educados e curiosos em relação ao Brasil.

De lá, seguimos para a cidade medieval de Zadar, com o maior órgão esculpido em rocha viva, em que a variação da maré produz os sons. Um convite para que todos deitados no chão curtissem, olhando o céu azul. 

Depois de uma noite com risoto de frutos do mar e vinhos maravilhosos, seguimos ao Sul e fomos para a Bósnia, repleta de pequenas cidades litorâneas e um pouco de montanha — sempre muito agradável. Porém, nosso destino era Dubrovnik, a tão esperada cidade de do século IX, cercada de muralhas com até 9m de altura. Fantástica, requinte total de arquitetura, culinária e vida noturna!

Caminhamos por quatro dias pelas ruelas de Dubrovnik e sobre a tão famosa muralha, onde você desce por escadas de aço inox e toma banho no mar — se quiser sem roupa — e depois volta para o bar para beber espumantes incríveis. É imperdível! 

Fomos ainda para Montenegro, onde infelizmente, por não termos visto, a polícia não permitiu nossa entrada… Aproveitamos para conhecer a ilha Korcula, na Costa Dálmata — a Veneza de pedra, onde Marco Polo ficou hospedado antes de ir para a China. 

Saímos de volta para Milão, parando em Split, a cidade do imperador Deocleciano, um sitio histórico e uma orla maravilhosa. Terminamos nossa viagem pegando um navio, por sugestão de minha mulher, e atravessamos o Adriático até Ancona. Fizemos nossa despedida em Bologna, tomando espumantes acompanhados de mortadela… Viagem Inesquecível…
