Vancouver ou Raincouver. Para os brasileiros, simplesmente “Vanchuver”. Sim, chove bastante nesta cidade, localizada no litoral do Oceano Pacífico, na Província de British Columbia, Canadá. Apesar da chuva constante que cai principalmente no inverno, o clima aqui é considerado ameno, apresentando uma média de 3 graus no inverno (nada mau se compararmos a outras áreas, que chegam a atingir temperaturas abaixo de 40 graus).  Vancouver é uma cidade cosmopolita de aproximadamente 2 milhões de habitantes, que em sua maioria são imigrantes. Congrega então a diversidade e vivacidade de uma grande metrópole, sem deixar de ser um lugar tranquilo e pacífico de se viver. Possui uma beleza estonteante, as montanhas cobertas de neve e o oceano azul se encontram numa paisagem de encantar os olhos.
Há muito o que se fazer em Vancouver. Começando pelo centro da cidade, a Galeria de arte e a Biblioteca Central são paradas obrigatórias.  Ainda no centro, no Harbour Centre Shopping Mall está localizado o observatório mais alto da cidade, uma torre que permite a vista de toda a cidade. É possível também jantar no alto da torre, em um restaurante que gira lentamente e possibilita a vista panorâmica de 360 graus. No entanto, o preço é bem salgado e a comida deixa a desejar.
Há também muitos Parques, como o Stanley e Lynn Canyon, assim como lindas praias para curtir no verão. No inverno, não faltam atividades para aqueles que gostam de praticar esportes, como o Ski e snowboarding. Ambos são diversão garantida, principalmente para os marinheiros de primeira viagem, pois leva-se muitos tombos até conseguir o equilíbrio necessário para deslizar as  montanhas geladas que cercam a cidade por todos os lados. Para os mais boêmios, Vancouver também não deixa a desejar, possuindo muitos bares e dance clubs. Eu recomendo também uma volta na multicultural Commercial Drive, uma avenida que possui muitos bares, restaurantes e cafés de todos os lugares do mundo. É um ótimo lugar para encontrar os amigos, seja para um exótico jantar etíope, ou para um tradicional expresso italiano, acompanhado por um delicioso panini.   
Mais uma dica para quem está pensando em se aventurar nessas terras geladas da América do Norte: a ilha de Vancouver. Localizada a uma hora e quarenta minutos do continente, possui acesso fácil por uma moderna balsa, muito confortável para todos os passageiros (a pé ou de carro). A principal cidade da Ilha é Victoria, capital da Província de British Columbia, muito visitada por turistas. Dentre as atividades mais interessantes, está o Whale Watching (passeio à barco em que o encontro com baleias é 100% garantido), o Butchart Gardens e o Museu Royal de British Columbia. Aproveite a beleza da capital de British Columbia, mas se puder estender a sua estadia na Ilha, não deixe de visitar Tofino. Uma pequena cidade que fica há 4 horas e meia de Victoria e que atrai muitos surfistas o ano inteiro. Apesar do frio, mesmo no inverno a cidade é movimentada, principalmente por causa das grandes ondas que se formam nesta parte do ano. Mas mesmo se você não é adepto do  surfe, Tofino é um desses lugares que vale a pena conhecer pela beleza e natureza, que é muito preservada.
Deixo aqui então dicas e impressões sobre Vancouver, cidade que foi sendo descoberta por mim, uma brasileira que chegou aqui apenas para fazer um curso de inglês de 3 meses e hoje mora aqui há quase dois anos, cursando o mestrado em Antropologia. Já estou bem adaptada e acostumada ao ritmo canadense, mas não pretendo morar aqui definitivamente. Apesar de multicultural e acolhedora, Vancouver ainda tem os ares do Norte para mim: o Norte da saudade. Saudades do Brasil, saudades do calor, ritmo e música…saudades de falar saudades…
