Minhas raízes italianas

Foi com o espírito do antigo seriado Raízes, televisionado no Brasil no final da década de 70, que eu e dois tios fizemos uma viagem à Itália. Todos com a cidadania italiana, fomos conhecer a terra natal de meu bisavô, Gaetano Negrini, que veio para o Brasil na primeira leva de imigrantes italianos, no final do século XIX.

San Pietro di Lavagno é hoje uma pequena comune, com 8500 habitantes, pertencente à província de Verona e distante 15 quilômetros do centro da cidade. No entanto, os assentamentos mais antigos são do chamado período paleoveneti, quando populações indoeuropeias ocuparam a região, a partir do século II a.C. Na época romana, Lavagno fazia parte da Via Postumia, uma importante estrada construída pelos romanos em 150 a.C., que ligava a capital do Império às regiões da chamada Galia Cisalpina, no norte da Itália.

A viagem do centro de Verona a San Pietro di Lavagno, feita pelas pequenas estradas vicinais, é deslumbrante: apesar da pouca distância para os padrões de São Paulo, nesses poucos 15 quilômetros que separam as duas regiões há um incrível contraste de paisagens. Do centro de Verona, a cidade de Romeu e Julieta e uma cidade predominantemente universitária, a paisagem se altera para uma rica região de vinhedos, com uma estonteante vista dos Alpes ao norte.

Do ponto de vista urbanístico a pequena San Pietro di Lavagno, como praticamente toda a Itália, é dividida em arquitetura sacra e civil. Fomos visitar a Igreja paroquial de San Pietro di Lavagno, que como o nome já diz, é dedicado a São Pedro. No seu interior, um belíssimo afresco de São Pedro sendo crucificado de cabeça para baixo e a pia batismal centenária, onde um dia meu bisavô foi batizado.

A cidade é composta de diversas villas, imensas casas onde viviam várias famílias: a Villa Verità, Villa Alberti, Villa Fraccarolli, entre outras, construídas pelas prósperas famílias da cidade. 

Meu avô nasceu numa casale, as casas de pedra comuns na região. Essa casale hoje está abandonada e faz parte do patrimônio histórico de San Pietro di Lavagno. Uma grande parte das casas de toda a cidade contêm nichos com imagens da Virgem Maria (os Capitèi). Apesar da cidade ter o nome de São Pedro, essas imagens foram colocadas nos nichos por conta da Peste Negra– uma epidemia de peste bubônica — que assolou a cidade (assim como grande parte da Europa) durante o século XIV.

Foi realmente fascinante poder visitar esse belíssimo lugar. O último ascendente conhecido desse ramo da família, o pai de meu bisavô, David Negrini (nome que sugere uma possível ascendência judaica — mas isso fica para uma outra conversa) gerou uma legião de pessoas: meu bisavô Gaetano, meu avô Alexandre, meu pai Ismael, eu, e agora meus dois filhos homens. Isso quer dizer que o mesmíssimo cromossomo Y, exclusivo dos homens, atravessou até aqui 6 gerações!!!! 

Assim como meu bisavô veio ajudar a construir o Brasil, eu pretendo passar minha melhor idade (melhor que velhice, não????) num retorno à essa espetacular região da Italia e tentar achar os tataratataravôs mais antigos ainda, tendo a certeza que meus filhos passarão esse cromossomo Y, que em última instância carrega toda uma história, para as gerações futuras.
