Conhecer a Índia e não visitar Agra, para ver o Taj Mahal, é como viajar para o Brasil e não conhecer o Rio de Janeiro. É claro que a Índia tem muita coisa interessante e bela para se ver e contar, mas vou falar aqui sobre um deslumbrante e inesquecível monumento, construído para sanar a tristeza de um imperador depois de perder a sua amada. A força dessa obra é tamanha que, reza a lenda,quem for visitá-la encontrará o verdadeiro amor de sua vida, com quem viverá até a morte.
O imperador Shah Jahan e Mumtaz Mahal conheceram-se por acaso, quando a futura princesa estava com seus 15 anos, e tiveram uma paixão avassaladora. Por um capricho do destino, ficaram cinco anos sem se ver uma única vez, até que se reencontraram, casaram e tiveram 14 filhos. Ela morreu, em 1631, ao dar à luz um menino.
Do ano de sua morte até 1643, Shah Jahan não poupou esforços nem sua fortuna para trazer os maiores artistas e arquitetos de todo mundo e erguer o Taj Mahal, o mausoléu de sua esposa , à beira do Rio Yamuna. Foram necessárias 22 mil pessoas e 50 milhões de rúpias para construí-lo. À primeira impressão, parece que ele está cima das nuvens, e há algo mágico em contemplá-lo pelo reflexo do espelho d’água na sua frente.
Patrimônio da UNESCO, os detalhes minunciosos da construção impressionam, a começar pela imensa cúpula branca, de 44 metros, típica da arquitetura islâmica. No extremo da plataforma sobressaem quatro minaretes coroados por pavilhões octogonais, simetricamente perfeitos. Na fachada, os painéis caligráficos com inscrições do Alcorão chamam a atenção, tal como o rendado das janelas, trabalhado em peças maciças de mármore, deixando entrar luz em diferentes nuances no decorrer do dia — dependendo da hora, o mármore branco se torna rosado.
Uma dica: para aproveitar a visita ao Taj Mahal e garantir ótimas fotos, é bom chegar cedo. Os portões abrem junto ao nascer do sol, então o melhor é chegar até as 9h da manhã. Os pontos turísticos da Índia sempre estão lotados de indianos e são incontáveis as excursões de turistas do mundo inteiro. São três as entradas para o monumento — o portão Sul, Leste e Oeste—, levando para um jardim belíssimo e extremamente bem cuidado.
A fila de entrada é dividida em homens e mulheres — o que é muito comum no país — e não é permitido entrar com bebidas, comida ou cigarros. O ingresso dá direito a uma garrafinha de água mineral e um par de meias descartáveis, uma vez que não é permitida a entrada no Taj Mahal de sapatos. Guarde o ingresso: ele dá descontos em outras atrações da cidade.
Mas vamos voltar à linda história de amor… Desolado, o imperador Shah Jahan precisava mais do que o Taj Mahal, queria construir, do outro lado do Rio Yamuna, um mausoléu igualzinho para ele, só que de mármore negro. O desejo era que um mausoléu avistasse o outro por toda a eternidade. Contudo, os filhos do imperador começaram a se preocupar com a saúde mental do pai e resolveram isolá-lo no Forte de Agra, onde foi cuidado permanentemente por uma de suas filhas. Shan Jahan pediu um dos quartos com vista para o Taj Mahal, e, até o final da vida, foi o que o imperador deposto fez: passava os dias a contemplar o mausoléu de seu grande amor. E ,foi ali, na mesma varanda, que deu seu último suspiro, em 1666.
O interior do mausoléu não pode ser fotografado. Ele é uma joia com incrustações em pedras preciosas e semipreciosas. A sala principal é octogonal, com uma altura de 25 metros, adornada por oito arcos. A tumba de Mumtaz ocupa exatamente o centro do recinto, sobre uma base de mármore. Shah Jahan está ao seu lado em uma tumba maior. Parece que, como as mais importantes histórias de amor que atravessaram os tempos, essa também teve seu final feliz ao encontrar a morte. Mas, felizmente, desta vez, o imperador sublimou sua dor em forma monumental de amor:o Taj Mahal é considerado uma das maravilhas do mundo!
