Vou compartilhar com vocês uma breve história que simboliza bem os malefícios da superproteção e como pais amorosos, inadvertidamente, caem nessa armadilha.
Em um grupo de crianças de quatro anos de idade, uma delas me surpreendeu muito no primeiro dia de aula. Na hora do almoço ela sentou-se à mesa e apenas observava seu prato, sem mover um só músculo.
Cheguei mais perto, intrigada com aquela cena, e a lembrei de que era hora de comer. Bem, foi então que a criança abriu sua boca bem grande e pronunciou: “ahhhh”. Nesse momento eu tive certeza de que ela estava aguardando para ser alimentada.
Preciso deixar claro que o esperado para uma criança de quatro anos, dentro de seu desenvolvimento regular, é que ela se alimente com independência.
Mais tarde, quando sua mãe chegou para apanhá-la, conversamos sobre o que havia acontecido. Não me surpreendeu saber que a criança era alimentada enquanto assistia desenhos em seu tablet quando estava em casa.
Falamos rapidamente sobre a capacidade dela em realizar essa tarefa naquela faixa etária. Foi aí que uma batalha se iniciou. Essa mãe, muito amorosa, que pretendia apenas proteger seu filho, começou a solicitar à coordenação da escola que as professoras auxiliassem durante a alimentação porque ele ainda estava aprendendo.
Você leitor que é pai ou mãe, tão amoroso quanto a mãe a quem me refiro, pode tirar vantagem dessa história também, pelo bem estar de seus filhos.
Enquanto essa criança era alimentada diante de seu aparelho eletrônico ela não desenvolvia nenhuma autonomia considerando a quantidade de comida ingerida. Ela não tinha consciência a respeito da necessidade de seu corpo porque seu cérebro estava absorto em outra atividade.
Saborear a comida e mastigá-la vagarosamente ajuda a controlar sua ingestão. A criança em questão nunca dizia se queria mais ou se estava satisfeita, comia a quantidade que lhe era oferecida e pronto.
Além disso, ela não exercitava sua coordenação motora. Nenhum desenvolvimento da coordenação entre a visão e as mãos estava sendo efetivada no processo.
Como toda mãe amorosa, após ser orientada e compreender sobre todo o reflexo que essa atitude causava no desenvolvimento de seu filho, ela mudou sua conduta e passou a motivá-lo em casa também. Saldo positivo para todos os envolvidos.
Não há nenhuma razão para fazermos por nossos filhos aquilo que eles são absolutamente capazes de fazerem por si mesmos. Isso inclui guardar os brinquedos, carregar a mochila da escola, tomar banho, fazer a própria higiene após usarem o banheiro, etc. Apenas podemos encorajar a autonomia se dermos espaço para eles crescerem.
É preciso nos lembrarmos que ao incentivarmos a independência e autonomia em nossos filhos a nossa vida também é impactada positivamente. Todos lucram com essa ação.
As crianças se desenvolvem cada uma em seu tempo, mas o olhar crítico acerca do que elas já conseguem ou não fazerem sozinhas é o seu. Esteja consciente disso!
