Charles Franz
De origem alemã, este pianista de 82 anos de idade já tocou no Carnegie Hall de Nova York, deu concertos e teve estúdios na Europa, Argentina e Uruguai, para depois vir sediar-se no Brasil; há 10 anos nesta região. Amante da música popular, mas com formação erudita, um artista da improvisação, professor de piano, ele criou seu próprio sistema para facilitar a aprendizagem do instrumento: um modelo inédito que dribla a necessidade de conhecimento do solfejo.
Pedaço da Vila:Onde o senhor nasceu?
Charles Franz: Eu nasci em Breslau, em 1925, uma província da Silésia, na Alemanha. É uma região histórica que possui inúmeras instituições de ensino de muita tradição. Minha primeira viagem foi para o Uruguai, em 1937, depois Argentina e finalmente Brasil. Vivi por muitos anos na Argentina. Viajei muito pela Europa e Estados Unidos. Fui diretor do Instituto de Piano Criativo em Buenos Aires com mais de 360 alunos, de 1963 a 1973. Depois fiz minha filial em Manhattan, Nova York, e dirigi por sete anos o “Charles Franz Studios”. Cheguei a São Paulo em 1983. Meu primeiro centro de ensino foi na av. Quarto Centenário com a avenida República do Líbano, tinha 220 alunos. Meu segundo instituto foi na rua Tucumã, na mesma calçada do clube Pinheiros, onde dei aulas para 150 alunos, só adultos. E há 10 anos estou aqui na rua Said Aiach, no Paraíso.
P.davila: Em qual país teve sua primeira aula de piano?
C.F.: Foi ainda na Alemanha com a famosa pedagoga Mathilde Hirsch Kauffmann. Logo em seguida tive aulas, principalmente com Misha Jessel, no Uruguai, discípulo de Ferrucio Busoni, pianista mundialmente conhecido. Eu cultivava minha condição erudita, mas paralelamente me convertia em um pianista bastante conhecido de música melódica popular. Também tive aulas na Argentina com o grande pianista russo Alexandre Uninsky e com o não menos famoso pianista francês Daniel Ericout.
P.davila: Em que lugares o senhor se apresentou?
C.F.: Dei inúmeros concertos em todo mundo. O principal foi no Carnegie Recital Hall, em Nova York, em 1973. Também já me apresentei no Camping Musical de Bariloche, Sala Magna da Faculdade de Direito, na Argentina, Teatro de Ensino, na Califórnia e em muitos outros lugares na Europa. Sempre dentro da especialidade da Arte da Improvisação, nos estilos dos grandes compositores da arte musical.
P.davila:O que é a Arte da Improvisação?
C.F.: Consiste em um concerto que não é preparado. É um concerto em que o público intervém dando temas de música popular que o concertista converte em peças semelhantes as que seriam tocadas pelos grandes pianistas que já existiram, como Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin e outros. É uma arte que eu cultivo, mas outros poucos nomes fazem o mesmo com qualidade. No mundo atual existem três ou quatro concertistas eruditos capazes de fazer isso. Meu último concerto desse tipo foi em novembro de 2006, no Grande Auditório Teatro Cultura Artística, com um público de mais de 800 pessoas.
P.davila:Como se originou o Sistema de Piano Charles Franz?
C.F.: Na Argentina, a maioria dos meus alunos, que já havia estudado piano, gostava pouco de tango e muito das músicas brasileira e americana. Eram pessoas que viajavam sempre ao Brasil trazendo os últimos discos. Eu tirava a melodia e fazia arranjos no piano, escritos com solfejo, que é a escrita tradicional do piano, que é muito complicada. Foi nessa época então que eu resolvi criar os símbolos, posições do teclado e criei o Sistema de Piano Charles Franz – inclusive patenteado. Através dele é desnecessário aprender piano com solfejo e é possível tocar melodias logo na primeira aula. Tanto que meus alunos aprendem uma melodia nova a cada aula. Eles tocam oitenta, cem melodias!
P.davila:Mas aprender solfejo não é fundamental para ser um pianista?
C.F.: O solfejo é importante, mas apenas para quem quer ser concertista. Não são todos que querem ser concertistas. Eu faço a comparação com o esporte: não existem só atletas profissionais. Há uma grande quantidade de pessoas amadoras e que se exercitam para manter a mente e o corpo sãos. O meu público é composto por alunos que não querem ser concertistas, querem apenas tocar. São pessoas que gostam de tocar cada dia uma melodia diferente.
P.davila: Explique o sistema que o sr. criou.
C.F.: São posições “pianísticas” por mim inventadas. São símbolos geométricos que contêm números. É uma coisa muito séria. Eu já escrevi sete livros e criei um software sobre isso. Os livros tratam de como tocar e como fazer seus próprios arranjos. Quem não é músico pode aprender facilmente. Já o software é um sistema que possui os arranjos de mais de 1000 canções, sendo que a mesma canção pode ter versões diferentes, totalizando cerca de 5000 versões. Hoje, existem livros com uma grande quantidade de cifrados e melodias. Esse programa traduz para piano melodias que atualmente existem somente para serem tocadas na guitarra. É só o aluno ingressar os dados que aparece o arranjo dentro do sistema de Piano Charles Franz. É uma obra completa para toda a vida. A idéia é ensinar de forma fácil aos meus alunos a técnica do piano, os arranjos e quem sabe ainda fazer essa pessoa criar os seus próprios arranjos mais futuramente. É deixar o aluno fazer uma musicoterapia prática!
P.davila:Musicoterapia?
C.F.: Por exemplo, exercício não faz bem a uma pessoa que nada? Com a música é a mesma coisa! A música faz bem à saúde das pessoas. Eu já tive uma aluna paraplégica que chegou aqui e começou a tocar piano. Participei de vários congressos de Musicoterapia.
P.davila:O Sistema de Piano Charles Franz é então revolucionário!
C.F.: Claro! Na verdade se aprende música sem ter que aprender. Hoje as coisas estão muito mais simples. Até aprender inglês é diferente. Antes nós tínhamos que aprender regras, conjugar verbos. Hoje se ensina falar, falando. Esse sistema é a mesma coisa. Ele ensina a tocar, tocando. Não adianta ter um monte de livros se a pessoa não senta em frente ao piano e consegue tocar as melodias.
P.davila: E qualquer um pode tocar?
C.F.: Sim, com vontade e gosto pela música. É preciso gostar da música. Muitas pessoas costumam dizer: eu tenho “ouvido” e por isto estou apta a tocar. Elas estão erradas! Não adianta só ter “ouvido”, tem de gostar de música! Meus alunos, por exemplo, são pessoas encantadas pela música e tocam por prazer.
P.davila:Há muitos professores que utilizam o seu método?
C.F.: Em outras épocas sim, mas como não faço propaganda ele foi sendo esquecido. Não estou preocupado com isso… Ensino por prazer. É lindo ver pessoas com cabelos brancos descobrirem que podem fazer música. Isto me contagia! As pessoas se sentem felizes de conseguir tocar uma melodia, tão rápido. Pode ser que no primeiro dia o aluno não domine, mas com certeza em um mês, sentirá imenso prazer de saber tocar os arranjos.
P.davila:Quantos alunos o senhor tem?
C.F.: É importante lembrar que hoje sou um senhor de 82 anos, já não tenho mais 150 alunos. Hoje me satisfaz ter um pequeno núcleo de pessoas adultas que vem aqui com o maior prazer de ganhar uma melodia nova e me contagiam com essa alegria. Tenho não mais que 35 alunos, só adultos. Não são 150, nem 200, mas me dão muito prazer. A pessoa que estuda comigo tem que estar entusiasmada com o piano. E é importante lembrar que não importa a idade. Meus alunos, a partir dos 18, 20 anos, têm uma aula por semana. É melhor porque hoje eu estou mais acessível. Antes, com mais de 200 alunos, só conseguia dar aulas em grupo. Agora elas são particulares.
P.davila: O senhor já escreveu sete livros, criou um software, continua a dar aulas, faz apresentações. Qual o projeto para 2008?
C.F.: Estou escrevendo “Minha Vida, Minha Obra, o Piano e Eu”. Já escrevi algumas partes, mas ainda preciso juntar outras. Confesso que estou um pouco preguiçoso, mas nos próximos meses pretendo lançá-lo!
